Carving the Future Frequently Asked Questions: Are there any registration fees? There are no fees directly related to the Carving the Future event, aside from the lift ticket price, which will vary from location to location and will be posted for the participant upon arrival at each event. As these details are confirmed, they will be added to the individual events which can be found on this website. Are there registration deadlines? We will post deadlines for each event on the event specific site. That being said, we will never turn anyone away who manages to arrive at one of our events without pre-registration. The benefit of pre-registration is that it allows our coaches to better prepare what they require ahead of time in terms of special equipm, ent needs and volunteer assistance. What costs is the participant responsible for? The participant is responsible for ski equipment that is available through the ski area rental shop. If the equipment is specialized, such as outriggers or a sitski, these items will be provided as part of the program. Are any costs due prior to the event? Any event costs can be provided at the event. If staying overnight, is there a hotel arranged? At each event we will determine a hotel or hotels that are best available relative to the event location. Where there are pre-determined room rates, the cost and booking deadline will be placed on the specific event location on this website. Do I need my own equipment? If you have equipment, certainly bring it with you. As stated earlier, rental equipment will be availabl, at a cost to the participant, at the ski resort. Are there insurance/liability waivers? All Carving the Future events are covered by Alpine Canada Alpin insurance, although the resorts will often require a separate resort waiver to be filled out. The resort waiver, if required, will be provided to the registrant for signing at the event. Does it matter how old I am? Age does not matter at all. We encourage all age groups to participate. The goal is to introduce as many individuals as possible to Para-alpine racing. Does the nature of my disability matter? No, it does not. We encourage participants wheter congenital or newly disabled, and those sitting, standing or visually imparied to attend. We do ask that if a visual impairment is the case, that we be contacted ahead of time, as a discussion as to a guide will have to be arranged. Do I have to be a really good skier already? No, we are interested in all abilities, as we want to expose as many individuals as possible to the sport. I already ski with CADS, should I still come out? Yes you should!! We welcome individuals from any CADS program to participate. Our goal is to further encourage new levels of Para-alpine race expereinces in support of the recreational abilities accomplished within the many excellent CADS programs across Canada. Will there be support/assistance available for all disabilities? We will try our best to create one to one ratios where possible. In some cases, with stronger skiers, you may be part of a group with one coach/instructor. As stated earlier, if there is a visual impairment, please provide us this information ahead of time. Do I need to attend both days of an event? We typically run events on a Saturday and Sunday. We encourage participants to be involved both days, but respect other commitments and travel requirements as well. So partial participation is certainly available. Are there only the five events? The primary events (two days each) will be hosted in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia. We will run an evening Carving the Future sessions in Calgary as well. Will there be new information on this site? We will try to keep the site up to date in many areas. Our initial focus is in getting the event arrangements online. We will then be addign more information on fitness training, equipment, athlete interviews from the Canadian Para-Alpine Slki Team, and other items over the year. If you have ideas, certainly let us know! |
